Driveways and footpaths are some of the most straightforward concrete pumping jobs — but they're also jobs where the case for pumping is often overlooked. A concrete truck reversing onto an existing lawn or garden to get close enough for a chute pour routinely causes more damage than the driveway itself costs to pour. In established Adelaide suburbs where landscaping is mature and neighbouring properties are close, this is a real consideration.

With a pump, the truck stays on the road. The hose is run to the formwork — whether it's a new front driveway, a side path, or a rear hardstand — and concrete is delivered accurately to where it's needed. No truck ruts, no crushed garden edges, no spillage on the verge.

Driveway and Footpath Pour Types

  • Residential driveways — crossover to garage driveways, double-width driveways, and circular driveways. Typically 10–25m³ depending on size and thickness. Pumping keeps the truck off the property.

  • Commercial driveways and access roads — high-load commercial driveways for warehouses, car parks, and industrial properties. Thicker slabs with higher-strength concrete.

  • Kerb and channel — site kerbing for commercial and residential developments. The pump delivers concrete precisely into kerb forms without overpouring or spillage.
Why Pump a Driveway When the Truck Could Reach?

Even when a concrete truck can technically get close enough to a driveway for chute delivery, pumping often produces a better result. The chute drops concrete from height, potentially causing segregation in the mix. A pump delivers at grade, directly into the formwork, with consistent flow that your concreters can spread and screed evenly. For driveways that will be exposed aggregate or pattern-printed, the surface quality benefits from controlled pumped placement.

Yes. Exposed aggregate driveways require the same pump-mix specification as standard driveways. The pump delivers the concrete into the forms, and the exposed aggregate finish is achieved by your concreter after placement by washing the surface before the concrete sets.
