What Is Residential Concrete Pumping?
Residential concrete pumping is the process of using a truck-mounted line pump to transfer fresh concrete from the ready-mix delivery truck to the placement point on your property. Instead of the concrete truck reversing up a driveway or discharging through a short chute, our pump connects to the agitator and pushes concrete through up to 100 metres of flexible rubber hose to exactly where your concreters need it.
This method is used when direct chute discharge isn't possible — which is the case on most Adelaide residential blocks. Narrow lots, side passages too tight for vehicles, rear yards, sloped blocks, and sites where a concrete truck would damage driveways, gardens or neighbouring properties all require a pump. The Residential Pumping Process
Understanding what happens on the day helps your builder and concreters plan the pour effectively:
- Pre-pour consultation — we discuss your site's access situation, hose run path, pump positioning, and the concrete mix specification needed for pumping (typically 80–100mm slump with 10mm or 14mm aggregate).
- Pump positioning — our truck arrives before the concrete and positions where the hose run will be most efficient, usually on the street or driveway.
- Line priming — the hose is primed with a cement slurry before concrete enters. This is a critical step that prevents the first batch of concrete from drying in the line and causing a blockage. Read more about why priming matters.
- Concrete placement — we pump at the pace your concreters dictate, moving the hose end across the pour area as directed. The operator monitors pump pressure and adjusts output to match the placement speed.
- Line washout — after the pour, the line is thoroughly flushed with water. This extends hose life and prevents hardened concrete in the line affecting future jobs.
